UPE Music Conference and Concert 2015
Awe awe!!!
November saw SA in a
whole new “light” after the #FeesMustFall, #Outsourcing and all other student
related protests forcing the ANC leader to freeze tuition fees, to the
Ridiculous “4 Bill” Jet our president’s about to get (word from our STR
source’s say April smh), to the “Victory of the
#PeoplesJusticeVSPoliceBrutality Movement” with the sentencing to 15 Years of
the Po’ that bodied the Moz’n cab driver back in 2013, It’s been MAD REAL since
the OverGround was fresh off of a dope “BoomBox Show” out at “Iron Tusk” in
Newtown 31st October 2015 (

Anticipating the SAHHA awards just around the corner, the
Hip Hop Fraternity was out with the renowned “Urban Phenomenal Entertainment”
(UPE) and was preparing to host “SkyZoo” along with the Jamla Grammy award winning producer “9th
Wonder” around Jozi for a screening of a documentary, a conference on 14th November at the Museum Africa
in Newtown, ending it the cultural way with a show happening out at Zone6 Venue
in D.K Msouden and fede, DIWELE!!!
The conference was too dope as networking, salutations,
light laughs and Boom Bap heart beats flew across the 3rd floor
conference room like ciphers back in the day, once again proving the magnitude
of the culture and again reminding eye of the many realms we have yet touched
base with via the “High Infinite Power Helping Oppressed People”… The Culture was well represented as faces of
artists like King of the RAP Activity Jam 2015 – Quee were there with the
movers and shakers seen around to hear how did, along Producer’s and
some of the SAHHA organizing team “Rashid”!!!
The con’ started with an introduction of the guest speakers
“DJ Khenzero, K.G (Morafe), 9th Wonder and Sky Zoo” by the
board sensei and MC of the day “DJ Zakes Mixmaster”. It got gully straight from
the onset with discussions coming from questions the crowed forwarded to the
panel.
The cRhyme moment of the day was when 9th got so
pissed that he had to leave during the con’ for a SABC radio InnerView that he
literally shouted “F*** them” as he explained “how he did this for his real
fans who make time to be at gigs like the conference, shows, screenings etc.”,
was mad real!!! He stayed for 20 minutes more taking quick Q’s and left to make the radio appearance, but not before introducing us to his
“Beat Team – The Soul Collectors” who stayed behind to jam beats after also getting to take Q’s from the house before the close of the
conference.
With the mood altered
and ready for a dope night out in Soweto, the vibe was on another out at “Zone6
Venue” as BoomBap could be heard as the crowed poured in while bouncers made
sure no weapons snuck in the place to be.

Subsir (winner of the UPE Emcee challenge) started
it off with and delivered one of the sickest
performers of the night just before a little beat battle between “Black
Suit and Cassper” and yo this just elevated the space na’mean!!!
Fifi cooper came on to give the people a chance to run to
the “rest room” or the bar and and and… “Sky Zoo” time came up after his DJ
(Prince) gave of a sick performance to introduce him also remembering and
saluting “Sean Price” (RIP) and ye he held it down as the crowd sang along to
their favorite tracks Link to vid).
9th came on straight after ‘SkyZoo” for what
seemed as a practice set to the heat the floor up for another Jamla emcee “GQ” and ye homie, it was just
too nice.
Making a comeback to the boards 9th was not alone this
time and was with DJ Khenzero for a set of doubles as the speakers banged and
smoke was seen to be from machines and the lungs of the many that were there
till the wee hours of the morning!!!
S/O to “Gwish (my Monkey fam), Solid, Rose, Sta-B,
Friada, Quee, Subsir, Prince, Aaron, and all that I didn mention for the dope
day, it’s all love!!!
